January 2014

PRESS RELEASE: ECOO Public Affairs and Economic Committee Secretary to move to Australia (PDF)

After four years working at the top of UK, Irish and European eye health and optical policy, Mark Nevin is moving to Melbourne Australia in the spring to pursue new career ambitions. Mark has been involved on numerous ECOO projects over the past years and has been a key contributor to the progress and successes that have been achieved.

As Secretary of the ECOO Public Affairs and Economic Committee, he was continuously engaged in our lobbying activities, monitoring legislative developments and representing ECOO at national and EU level. He has ensured that ECOO’s interests are pursued in all their facets and helped to influence high-level policy at the EU-level, building a strong foundation for our work on the future development to eye health and care across Europe.

He helped foster closer relationships with external stakeholders and was instrumental in setting-up the European Coalition for Vision. He was also the official ECOO representative on the European Forum Against Blindness (EFAB) Steering Group, which organised the World Sight Day events.

ECOO President Dr Julie-Anne Little said: “Mark will be greatly missed within ECOO for all the hard work and involvement he has had within ECOO in recent years. We are also grateful to his UK employers the ACLM, FMO and FODO for their flexibility and support for his European work. I wish Mark all the best for his next career step and am sure that he will continue to advocate for eye health, optics and optometry from Australia.”

Mark said: “I will miss all the friends I have made within the ECOO membership and the eye health sector.  It’s been an honour to work with such motivated professionals and to build the profile of eye health and develop new partnerships across Europe.”

The ECOO Executive Committee will meet on 31 January 2014 for its first meeting of the year and will on this occasion discuss Mark’s succession and handover of the projects he is working on.
