Current ECOO Secretariat will remain fully operational until the presentation of a successor
ECOO Secretary General Dr. Ulrich Adam has announced his intention to resign from his current position by 31 January 2013. The resignation follows the decision of Dr. Adam to leave Hill+Knowlton Strategies – the current provider of the ECOO Secretariat services – where he has been working for the past nine years, most lately as a Director in the Public Affairs department.
The ECOO Executive Committee has accepted the resignation and is in the process of discussing the appointment of a successor. As an interim solution, a care-taking Secretary General shall be nominated by the Executive Committee during its meeting in Brussels on 1 February 2013. Following this, a formal successor should be identified for endorsement by the General Assembly at the ECOO Spring Meeting in Malaga in April 2013. In the meantime, the current ECOO Secretariat in Brussels will be staffed by Ms. Fabienne Eckert and will remain fully operational.
Commenting on the decision, ECOO President Dr. Julie-Anne Little said: ‘While regretting Dr. Adam’s decision, we would like to thank him for his dedicated service to ECOO during the past two years and would like to wish him all the best for his future professional career.’
Dr. Adam replied: ‘It has been a privilege and honour to serve ECOO as a Secretary General. As the active and dynamic organization that it is today, ECOO is well-equipped to shape the future of optometry and optics in Europe in the years to come. For this endeavour, I would like to wish the Executive Committee, the members and my future successor all the best.’
The European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) is the European organisation which represents the interests of optometrists and opticians from 27 countries. It aims to promote eye health to the public across borders and to harmonise clinical and educational standards of optometric and optical practice throughout Europe.
